F.R.E.E. (Freediving Regulations & Education Entity)
Dear freedivers of the world,
F.R.E.E. is happy to announce 2 New World Records. Yasemin Dalkilic (Turkey) and David Lee (Jamaica) have set female and male Salt Water Records in the Unassisted Constant Ballast category. Both dives took place in the waters off the small town of Kardamena, on the island of Kos, Greece.
David Lee established a new record by reaching a depth of 47 meters/154 feet in a total dive time of 1:49 minutes. His dive took place at 12:04 PM on Sunday, October 21st. With this dive, Mr. Lee has improved on the previous record of 46 meters/151 feet that had been set in a joint effort by Mr. Erez Beatus (Israel) and Mr. Trevor Hutton (South Africa) earlier this year.
On the same day, Yasemin Dalkilic attempted to set the first official female record in this category by diving to a depth of 40 meters/131 feet. However, she was disqualified after an accidental violation of the F.R.E.E. rules while retrieving the confirmation tag at the goal depth. One day later, on Monday, October 22nd, at 11:15 AM, Ms. Dalkilic attempted the record again and successfully completed her dive to 40 meters in a total dive time of 1:56 minutes.
F.R.E.E. appointed judges Erman Akarsu (Australia) and Arthur Zaloga (Lithuania) to represent our organization for these events. Mr. Akarsu was positioned at the surface for both records where he received the confirmation tag from both Mr. Lee and Ms. Dalkilic. Mr. Zaloga was positioned at the bottom where he witnessed the arrival of both divers to the goal depth and the tag retrireview manuver.
F.R.E.E. wishes to congratulate both divers on this accomplishment and thanks them and their Organizing Committee for the hospitality extended to our judges. Both, David Lee and Yasemin Dalkilic will attempt two more world records in the upcoming days. We wish them good luck.
